While living in South Africa in 2015 TAC She Founder Hanna Girling was asked to come and coach a young talent, Bongani, newly hired at one of Johannesburg’s top law firms. The young man in question had grown up in a rural part of the Eastern Cape, living with his grandmother and gone to the local school on a dusty plain, where there were more children than seats.
Thanks to his inner drive and ambition Bongani found a way to realise his dream, of becoming a lawyer – just like Nelson Mandela – and he got a scholarship to take him through school and university.
Graduating with top scores Bongani was soon offered employment at an established law firm. What Bongani lacked was experience and understanding of how to operate in the business world, things known to most people in the western world, like basic hygiene, communications skills and so on. Sadly before Hanna had the opportunity to work with Bongani, he had been fired by a different partner. This broke Hanna’s heart and she knew there must be a way to change this.
